Title: Less than 2 hours until Mn fishing opener
Post by: Wolvenar on May 11, 2012, 10:26:41 pm
It's less than 2 hours until the official Minnesota fishing opener.

So the last week I sanded/blasted the trailer and gave it a new paint.
did some maintenance on the smaller boat, and dug out the trolling motor tested the batteries etc.

Turns out I wont be on the lakes on the first day after all :(
Have to get some work done tomorrow.

So question for everyone..

Whats the best way to get a wife who doesn't fish to start?  ::)

Load her up and tell her you are taking her shopping.  Just stop and do your fishing first!

Mine would have caught on to the scheme fast Watt. She would have talked me into stopping for a bio-break on the way. She wants to drive then. Where would we end up first? one guess. Then it will be too late for fishing...

Wolv, if you can get her in the boat, get a fish on your pole, hand it to her, take the fish off (like the gentleman you are),rebait the hook and cast it. Anyway, that's how I started mine. She still expects the same treatment each and every time though.

Don't forget to comment on how beautiful her hair looks blowing in the breeze and the revitalization you are sure you see in her face.

In my case, was 30 years ago and she thinks I'm up to something now.  ;D

Good luck on the water, Wolv.  My wife and I are heading out to Long Lake in a couple hours to do some pike and walleye fishing.

Boy, getting a girl to go fishing when she doesn't otherwise?  That's a tough one.  She has to like it because if she goes just because you want her to, but doesn't really like it, it won't work.  All you can do is take her along and see if she likes it.  Show her that other women like to fish because it's fun:

For the single guys out there, I guess all you can do is look thru the dating ads in the paper and maybe you'll find one that says:
"Attractive lady looking for a man with nice boat to pull behind her Ford truck, please send picture of boat to......"

Title: Finally got in some fishing

I finally got a couple days in for real fishing, last week with my daughter, this week with a bud of mine.
Strange how the eldest inthe boat both times caught the most/best fish. Alyssa and I , I caught the most, but of all of ours they were all keepers. With Alfred and I, he caught a couple northern, I caught one to small to keep, and a ton of tiny sunfish, none worth keeping.

Smallish compared to what could be caught around here.. but still fun

24 to 30 inches on them northerns is a good size to eat.  Bigger than that and they got too much belly fat.  Smaller than that and the y-bones are too small.  My wife caught a 39 inch northern, about 25 lbs, last weekend on Long Lake.  We didn't keep it - it was a big female.
