Downtime
« on: July 27, 2016, 06:52:40 pm »
As many know I host this site out of my home, much of the time on RE power with grid backup.

As of late we have had a rash of really bad weather that has caused a lot of damage in the area.
We have been mostly spared of the most severe damage, our house still stands, however we have had our share.
Most recently which has concerned this server was when a local lightning strike to a grid power pole fed enough back to do some significant damage in to a lot of the neighbourhood. Being grid backed there is a physical connection that was partly isolated because it was on the batteries at the time.

The inverter shut down do to this, and the sudden drop of power caused on *this particular system* minor file corruption.
All is well now (for the moment) on the system running the forum. Other things we have here however did not do near as well so I have my hands full trying to repair stuff.

I expect I will have to have some scheduled additional down time to deal with some of the problems this has caused.
I will try to inform here before hand as much as possible.

Considering this is not hosted in some huge super secured and ultra modern datacenter somewhere, I don't think the uptime has been all that terrible.

Never the less, sorry everyone for the down time today.

Trying to make power from alternative energy any which way I can.
Just to abuse what I make. (and run this site)

Downtime  has been just about non-existant.  Thanks for that.  Do what you have to do, it will be the
right thing.
And thanks for all the things you do that we don't even know about.

The hits keep on a coming, though this one passed without incident it seems.
This was taken yesterday just a couple miles north of me.

According to local news, this year has seen a lot of sightings/warnings, but so far,
all in the same category as that one.  (fingers crossed)  Hope it stays that way.
