Title: Free Freezer Repair
Post by: RFburns on October 04, 2019, 02:07:09 am
So scored a free freezer (big upright with draws) but it has a problem was told "you can only use it as a fridge it wont freeze"

So checked the heater wasn't staying on -all good
the fan goes and the heater timer seems O.K gauge on the suction confirmed low gas charge.

So to get a fitting on the suction I used a no heat required fitting

and added the dye through this plugged it in (still has low gas at this time) and will see if I can identify the leak -UV dye so purchased a cheap UV torch from the bay

O.K so after considering what to re gas this with (initially I was going to use propane/iso butane ) I ended up using R134 - This is expensive in Australia when purchased as a refrigerant and a license is also required;  but it is sold for other uses and is very cheap when purchased like this

Long story short Freezer is fixed (haven't found a leak yet but is re gassed and freezing well)
