RE film
« on: May 16, 2021, 10:12:30 am »
Hi everyone! I realize this post could create turmoil so Moderators, if i need to delete i will or you can, i appreciate and respect this forum.

So even though this film (planet of the humans) is a year old, i had not seen it. We watched it last night and I thought wow. It is a documentary on green energy so-called RE. Some views might be one sided yet details things I did not know. It may even explain some of the events through 2020 to now. Its free to watch on you tube. To me, i agree many green energy decisions by our gov are just reckless like mandating x amount renewable energy by a set date without any idea of the direction it will take.  It would be interesting to hear others views on this film.

Hi lighthunter,

For the past 20 years we here in Normandy, France have been creating and running a SUSTAINABILITY Project.  In the beginning most folk thought we were 'nutters'.   Now, we are asked all the time.

Over the years i have had no choice but to design and build true Renewable Energy creation and management gear and actually manufacture the necessary working equipment.

I will always be indebted to 'Oztules', John Tullock for sharing his wise knowledge and experience.

WE now do a few 'How to make' books with International ISBN Numbers.   And i have a information web site for those that want to go further.  All the info that i supply is empirical evidence, ie, we have actually done and tested it.

We are not a commercial business selling anything except are books at a cost to cover expenses.

http://www.bryanhorology.com/renewable-energy-creation.php

This site breaks out into specific areas, Wind Turbines, PV Solar Trackers, PV Array installations, OzInverter, Off Grid & your own Mini Grid.

And here is the latest Sustainability Project book we are putting together at the moment we got so fed up with the bull$#!+ misleading info being peddled out at this present time.

http://www.bryanhorology.com/sustainability-a-20-year-project.php

The below is from the book roughed out..........

What is Sustainability.

Sustainability means meeting our own needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs and the capacity of human society to continue indefinitely within Earth’s natural cycles.

However, things have changed in 20 years, and now a more formal structure is arising that now tends to be towards Academia and large international corporations. And what seems to be emerging is this……… Sustainability, the quality of causing little or no damage to the environment and therefore able to continue for a long time:

And…….. Sustainability is most often defined as meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs. It has three main pillars: economic, environmental, and social. These three pillars are informally referred to as people, planet and profits.

And here we have a modern business dilemma as the business world sees GROWTH at all times by any means.  And what I see so far in 2021 is a hell of lot of HOT AIR and so-called sustainability products that are just twaddle and hype.

On the other hand some organisations see a differing solution by being very stark and gloom and doom out pouring’s, ie:-.

Being humans' capacity to survive within Earth's natural cycles, sustainability is important because it is the only alternative to human extinction.

Sustainability can be achieved by meeting human needs within ecological constraints, i.e. by stopping our contribution to the 4 root causes of un-sustainability.

This scientific consensus made it possible for the group of scientists to look at the things that we (humans) do to interfere with these natural cycles. They found four root causes of un-sustainability:

We extract large flows of materials from the Earth’s crust.
We create an accumulation of substances produced by society.
We physically inhibit nature’s ability to run its cycles and…
We create barriers to people meeting their basic needs worldwide.
There is no quick solution to which is correct and which will lead, but at least they are talking positively. But the modern business model and the way commercial ventures and finance work will have to change.

After 20 years on the Le Vivray Project I believe that there is no magic single bullet that will correct everything overnight, but there are thousands and thousands of little magic bullets that when all added together can give true sustainability that will help.

Many times, I have been told by so called Renewable energy equipment manufacturers, “No sorry, your stuff lasts to long, its just to simple so there is no added value for us to make good profits”.

The below is the roughed out Chapters of the New Sustainability Book that we will be publishing.

Hey clockman!   Yes, you are defenitely doing your part to train and lead by example. Thank you for that!

Its hard to know if things are really as grim as the film paints the picture. I doubt Mr Moore would waste an opportunity to influence people in a preferred direction. They are right about the idea of cutting live trees for electricity, thats just stupid! I liked how they caught the big names like Gore and Koch doing the opposite of their message for their own gain. Obviously there is no definition for right or wrong anymore. I agree with film message that solar panels have a high environmental cost to manufacture but film fails to communicate they are a golden egg thereafter, especially dualed as roofing material. That just seems like a no-brainer. I definitely agree with calling out the tycoons exploiting tax dollars for their own gain, but showing wind turbines as a complete failure and waste of resources might be extremely inaccurate. I dont have the data but it does seem far smarter and more practical than many other human endeavors.

Yes, it is hard to know what is truth and what is non truth.

Those with vested interests will always manipulate the figures to prove they are correct.  Mrs comes from the Corporate world with her Science/Bio-medical Doctorates, MBA's etc, but can only just change a plug. But she now admits, now she is freelance, that sadly the Corporate business World is not what it is made out to be.

Regarding Wind Turbines, ROI, return on investment. Years ago we sat down and did a cost analysis of a Big One, and obviously it all depends on what rates they are getting for power produced.  We reckoned that pay back was 20 years, that's if the original investment came out of your own pocket.

Even our own highly efficient and simple, robust 3.7m diameter windturbines, (the Hugh Piggott design)  is no longer cost effective, It costs me $1500 to construct and put up for a guaranteed 1kW output, Sadly i now advise PV on static arrays is now far more cost effective, and it needs very little maintenance. Where my Turbines need a yearly service.  I keep them going, as the Mrs says, "Its a statement".

PV, yes agreed manufacturing it has some nasty processes. But up until 5 years ago a German company here in Europe was manufacturing some good quality stuff all within environmental regulations, i have some.  But they ceased trading as they said, "we can not compete with the Chinese on cost" , but i suspect that there is more to that, as most companies here in Europe want a large staggering return on there Investment.

You just got a love that Chinese man/Prof who got trained in Australia, studied PV went back to China, got state funded, built factories and started producing good efficient PV, with better and better output characteristics.  And he stuck a finger up to the western world oil companies that held PV patent rights.

I am just a boring Mechanical Engineer that actually has skills to make stuff, but sadly I know far to much, and  the above is just a snap shot.

For us here, i was happy pottering along, then the last few years folk have really been getting interested in our endeavours, and hence the books.

As i get older, I now state reality and that upsets the Commercial business World, so I keep a lot to myself, unless asked face to face.   As My French Eco Warrior friend in the next village, off grid in his built Log Cabin said, "Well that LI-ION battery engineer i brought to meet you has gone away to reassess his career when you showed the ROI documents you have".

Good to have friends like my Eco warrior, "that Government official coming to see your specialist works, " yes, i said, "Do not show him more than he is there to see, he can not cope with stuff outside his remit".  Very wise advice.

But as i said before, at least folk are talking.

Now, best get back to installing another PV array getting us up to 20kW.

Look after yourself lighthunter.

2007, Cedar carved blades, for No1, 3.7m diameter wind turbine.
