Building and testing new Direct drive turbine
« on: January 18, 2012, 09:10:22 am »
Some might know of this build from the other board , been in the making for a year . It is a 20 foot turbine with solid shaft design . My purpose of the build has been grid tie through a aurora 4.2 inverter . The rotors are 21 inches with 20 mags per plate  1 by 2 3/4 thick n42 , the stator is 15 coils 160 turns of 14 awg making .85 volts per rpm ac unloaded the ohms per leg 1.1 . Has turned out to be a beast of a generator .  My inverter can output up to 4,800 watts safely and the generator has maxed that out in 35 mph winds .

Is there any tricks for attaching photos from a iPad ??

If not there's always you tube

    That Is a cool machine.

I would  like to build one for my self . But the mag cost would be a high

.    I have been thinking of using a rear axle from a Pu truck and mounting a axial alt. to the pinion shaft.

Not a clean set like you have .      But it should work,

It will be about the #30 for me .But will be the biggest.

I love direct drive.  But with the cost of magnets I'm wanting to try something different.

I'm with you the new mags cost me 750.00 shipped  :'(   I was able to sell my old rotors to help pay for them but still sucked . I would of rather used 2 by 3 inch mags but they were almost 40.00$ a piece .
Maybe once this beast is all dialed in I'll sell it and build a bigger one !!
