52' Tv repair
(1/1)
Ax3s:
Ax3s (my son) posted the images, just to make me write this up..
So here it is simply put
RCA TV Trace burn
Nice damage from high voltage arcing
Initial clean up with brass brush on dremel
Ready for repair
rebuilding burned traces, used epoxy to fill the hole
After Repair it works great
Wolvenar:
Nothing big this time, just a cooked capacitor and more bad solder joints.
This TV is one of the first RCA made with lead free solder, which take some engineering changes it seems to make reliable.
I have gotten new caps, capable of higher voltage, plus I am reworking all the solder on the board and adding older lead style solder to hopefully make this more reliable. I have not finished this yet as my mother doesn't want it back (yet) in favor of a smaller crt style as she has the 2 yo grand-kid there A LOT and he cant keep his hands off
Wolvenar:
Well today I um "rescued" another flat panel from the garbage bin..
First got it home it turned on, 10 min later off it goes...
Not much wrong here though, swap out some caps in the power supply with higher quality and higher voltage ( same capacitance )
put in new fuses.
And..
Yeah sure its plasma, and I would not buy one.. But hey it only cost me only a few dimes to fix, guess I can handle that.
Keep this up and the wife will start forcing me to give some of these away (not there yet though)
frackers:
You should be going for the back projection jobs with the big freznel lense in them - they make great solar cookers :)
