More Powerboats

ChrisOlson:
These powerboats just fascinate me.  This just HAS to be probably the wildest ride on earth.  The brutal whine from those superchargers has to be just incredible:

In this video you get to see the throttle man at work.  Looks to me like it takes more skill to run the throttles on one of these boats than it does to drive it:

Yes that got my heart pumping.

I rode in a 12ft sprint boat with 850 hp . It was almost terrifying.

0 to 60 mph in 60 ft. I almost felt getting shot out of a cannon.

     Too much horsepower NEVER.      JLT

ksouers:
That's not boating.

It's low altitude aviating!!  That last video he was out of the water more than he was in it!

OOOOOhhhhhhhh   Yeah!! ;D ;D

ChrisOlson:
What's intriguing is that you can go 200 mph on 200 hp in an airplane.  It takes 500-600 hp on land in a car.  It takes 3,000 on water.

These videos are on Sterling Performance's website - they're the people that build a lot of the engines for these powerboats.  This is another good one - the throttle man in this video is the same guy as in the Avatar video above - Johnny Tomlinson:

Some people say things like they'd "give their left nut" to be able do or have whatever.  I don't know if I'd go that far, but if my wife asks me what I want for father's day I know what I'm going to tell her - a 36 foot Douglas Skater with twin Sterling 1550's in it    8)
