Yeah, we need to fix this attachment failed security crap. I get bit by it occasionally on photos I take myself and I am certain that no security issues exist with them. One reason I post my photos elsewhere and avoid the stupid problem all together.
There must be some way to tell the forum to stop this silliness. I use a Kodak that is a couple three years old. No windows here so nothing is getting inserted by that gaping security hole.

Try the attachments again please , change something.

I had the problem with photos one day too. I kept at it and by process of elimination I found it was just one picture it didn't like, for whatever reason. I took that picture out and it uploaded fine with the rest of the pictures. IIRC I re-took the picture with my Kodak camera and tried it again. It still wouldn't take it. So I uploaded the picture to my Picasa Photo Albums and linked to it from there and that worked fine.
It's strange that it did not like that picture, even after I re-took the picture and tried it again. It might be a bug that the SMF people should be made aware of?

As you know, I generally don't save images to the forum - I host them myself and just post links.
That said - the recent word-puzzles and "find the faces" - I had no interest in hosting the files myself and it made more sense to upload them.
The first word puzzle worked fine. As did the second. The 3rd however refused to work. The aforementioned security error. Oddly, I'd done exactly the same as I had on the first two!
Tried re-saving the image. Same problem. Then changed file type from .jpg to .png and it worked.
Doesn't necessarily fix the problem, but might be a pointer to where it's going wrong - or at least an easy work-around.

Something has to be looking at the TAG too closely...

Well, maybe we can get oz's post on to a different thread somehow and try to fix the picture fiasco with it? It's a really good post on how to build cheap off-grid DC gensets. I ran one of these DC gensets with a Delco alternator on it for years and they are a very nice thing for off-grid people to have. Oz put a lot of good information in that post and I would like to see it not get lost in the clutter.

And/Or the SMF guys are somewhat clue-deprived.

Can't say I like the "fix" - just keep increasing memory more and more until it works. IIRC, thats what happened "over there" that ended up causing a host of OTHER problems.
Surely the conversion can have a "useful" error message - like "Memory exhausted - needed (x), have (y)"....

It's obviously a bug that has occurred with others too. I don't like the "fix" either. That's like dumping more gas on the fire and maybe it will go out.

Just so we are clear I'm the numb nuts that raised the memory allocation for SMF over there . It got us through some of it (different errors that actually did point at memory), bad news was there was no memory to grab.
I agree we need to pass this back to Oztules post Chris, and move this somewhere else. I'm guilty

Someone who actually knows how should split the comments (all that are about the photo issue) off into another thread.
Hate to see the original intent get obfuscated as it is a very nice writeup.
I would but would probably lose it all.

I have made some changes, hence asking to retry the upload, and no it has nothign to do with memory.. I am not going to go for that crap, I'll recode the damned image handling before just putting that kind of band aid on a problem. No reason for a single site to take more ram than I already allow this one :-\ Now that I have had time with SMF,, I can say it has major problems, I caused a couple securing some things on it I didnt like and we don't use, but it is not to blame for this problem
If anyone could send me an image that is failing the uploads as (if it still is), so I can use it to test attempts to fix, send me a pm please.

Here's the one that failed on me before.

Whatever you fixed worked. They loaded this time.
Thanks Wolv .......and Ross for the tidy up
It may take a few more posts to finalize the project, but the guts are now in place
