200,000 recharges on new kind of batteries
Instead of lithium, researchers at UC Irvine have used gold nanowires to store electricity, and have found that their system is able to far outlast traditional lithium battery construction. The Irvine team's system cycled through 200,000 recharges without significant corrosion or decline.

I'll take 2 dozen 12v 200ah of these please. I have 5 cents. Seriously though solar and batteries seem to be like computers, there's always something much better right after you drop your wad on one.
agm's for my budget tho.
where should I post my proposed solar design so I can get advices and ridicules and make it better
Thanks

Storing energy using trains to carry Concrete uphill when there is surplus power

Good read Woof. Very simple, and not bad efficiency. A lot going for it.
Thanks for the share

Except an insane cost of power and storage :o
Slip-connections, multiple small autonomous generators, construction, geographical requirements not too steep, not too flat, giant area consumption.
Vs.
A pipeline, a lower bassin, and upper bassin, and a pump/generator, and water. At approximately 1/7th. the cost per MWh.
Anyhow a danish guy, Henrik Stiesdal, formly the CTO of Siemens Windpower, now retired has a danish blog called "Engineer the Future". He has a specific interest in storage, and reviewed the railcar concept when it was floated last year:

Calculation of cost, and comparison to powerwall and pumped storage:

I don't ever see the mechanical gravitational systems competing with simple pumped water.
