Some more LED stuff
« on: October 26, 2016, 07:33:53 am »
Tried a few things for shop lighting,  compact CFL's weren't too bad, but power surges kept
killling them.
So,  moved on to LED.  These are 100w equivalent, topped with 30 quart salad mixing bowls.
I thought the SS would reflect well, and it did, but only in a straight down pattern.  Painting
them bright white seems to be a good compromise.
Not too much light wasted towards the ceiling, and visability in the welding area is good.
Rest of the shop will get the same,  just waiting for a cheap deal on the bowls again.  Bought
all they had the last time.
The LED's have proven to be more robust, and no failures----yet  ;)

Looks great, are you using just normal Edison type bulbs? How did you mount the salad bowls to the ceiling?

  Thanks Dave
eraser--standard edison.  Mount depended on how much dispersion I wanted.  Over the bench, I cut a hole big enough
to fit over a standard ceiling light socket.  (41/2 inch)  Then screwed the bowl right to the ceiling.  More lateral dispersion.
The bowls  are very light  (read cheap)
Others, a smaller hole, (1 3/4) and hung on the bulb.  More focus as bulb is further inside the bowl.
Seems to fit the needs of my tired old eyes.  :)
