Replacing AAA alkaline batts with C size NiCads.
« on: February 26, 2013, 04:47:53 pm »
2038-0
I had to remove the first half of the shrink plastic as it was too
tight of a fit, after that  the first 2cells are still linked together  but
loose so good old hot glue to put them together and trimmed the
excess glue.
A: original flashlight with all of E removed.
B: 3cell sub size c NiCad battery, with first half of shrink wrap removed.
C: Wire soldered onto back of NiCad battery.
D: Wire stripped and ready for taping to anodized aluminum case (ground).
E: Parts removed and not used.
F: Hot Glue joint and excess glue trimmed.

2041-2
2043-3
You can pull on the batteries a fraction to turn off...or push in to turn on
I know now that anodized aluminum seems to be the same as bare aluminum
electrically hence the bare wire just taped to the aluminum case works.

Will let you know if the NiCads work as well and last as long as the AAA's work
.....or whatever ?

I have done exactly the same, the only difference is switches and all worked just like they should have because the springs in it had that much extra play.

The nicads lasted much longer, though I have no real hard data on how much longer.
Trying to make power from alternative energy any which way I can.
Just to abuse what I make. (and run this site)

Looks good Norm.
Didn't figure the 3xAAA holder was the same diameter.  Interesting.

Ghurd....interesting..?......I'm just getting started....stay turned for the
next brainstorm ....My NiCad Electric Cane....multi-uses for charging the
batteries to run these lights, my 4LEDs + 1,  3 lamps  at a time 12 volt charging mode
can also be used as a NiCad pack to power a 12, 14, 18, or 19.6 volt cordless drill/s .
can also be used as a club  ;)..... ( back off!  as---le  >:(
will post more later on today....
am presently charging batteries in EC at this moment.
