Just hit upon an idea to make replacement of NiCad cells for cordless
drills simpler and easier.............

as 6 tabs aren't removed that makes 6 less places to solder...
I could actually have 5 other places to solder if I put pressure points
in the container to push the tabs against the contact points
....which I may do ....and if the user had trouble with any of the contact
points he could solder them himself ....could also include a couple of extra cells
to easily replace [attachimg=2]if desired .
This is for Tom's 14.4 drill.
You'll notice that it is about 1/16 inch taller but about an inch shorter....just as wide
as the original.
I'll show you pictures of how I did it.....also how I plan on one doing one for 18volts.

With Tony in your corner I expect your next project is dismantling those puppies and reassembling into shaped cells to fill the entire battery compartment space.

yep ...Tony is one of the place mats we make from the cereal boxes
.....cutting the tops off then covering with clear contact paper making
ahem elegant (?) place mats .....Haw !
BTW We celebrated our 57th wedding anniversary yesterday. Yep she's
put up with me all this time !

We use the cheaper bag cereals so can't make those fancy placemats.

Yep ......saves a lot of wear on the $2.96 plastic tablecloth :)
The cells for the 18 volt cordless drill arrangement tested out
uninterrupted 5 minutes no load 20.4 down to 18.4 .....so I
think this will be okay to use also ..
Now to set it up do pics of it tomorrow .....3-5cell modules

they make contact on the end terminals puts them in a string
of 15 cells which makes 18-20.4 volts for a cordless drill .
Saves you $$$$$ on new battery packs for your cordless drill .

detaching the tabs on certain cells of 2-2in a set
and one with no tabs by bending one tab in an inverted reverse L
at the top and bending the bottom tab in a reverse L the tab less
cell is inverted and soldered to the top and bottom tabs.
Hope this is clear enough to the viewer.

actually these are bag cereals ....in a box , we have the one shelf for the box cereals that we can lay them on their side....they're too tall to fit standing up .....and some are to long to fit even sideways so we \\\\ slant them Barb cuts the tops and fold them down
if they are way to long .....me .....I've found that I can transfer the new bag into the previous smaller box .....and if she's thrown that away ....it comes out of the new box
anyway and sits on the shelf just like bag cereal .....we have real large arguments over
small stuff like this over all these years but I try not to go there if I can help it. ;)

Norm, just a little thing: your batteries don't have +6 and -6, or +18 and -18 volts.
You could have - 6V +
and - 18V +
But connecting something between -6V and +6V should give you 12V.

Don't quite understand what you are saying....each module is a nominal 6 volt battery.
I charge one with a 6volt charger to about 6.80v.
I charge the other 2 together with a 12 volt charger to 13.65v.
then I put them in this special box that connects them in series
and then they read 20.48.
When they drop to 18v. I remove them and drop in another 3 modules that are fully
charged .

I think he is saying that each battery has a plus and a minus 6 volts (-6+) a minor point but more clear.

Voltages are generally "referenced to zero volts" (ground).

Thinking of making a power supply with these Quik Modules only less the 3 vertical cells making them 14.4 v for each group instead 18 ....then put in a box with handle ....parallel 5 or 6 with 12 ft.extension cord for each side . let you know how it works
out.
