Title: vawt candidates ?
Post by: niall on February 21, 2015, 04:28:13 pm
quiet on the wind turbine front lately but i came across these next door at work , 2 industrial units are rented by commercial wind energy companies

basically there discarded chopped up outer blade composite sections of a damaged big turbine blade ....and they seem very nice too , a big big though .....

when i asked if i could take them away ( was thinking of making an  unusual pc desk out of one ? ) ...it later seemed if a better use would be for a vawt ...they really are beautifully made  ???  with a massive structural  main member ...

i,m not that insane though ...but i,ll trailer them home anyway  ....

Been looking at the pics for about 10 minutes Niall, trying to come up with some
brilliant plan on how to re-purpose those lovely pieces.
No brilliant thoughts.
But they sure are neat.

yea ...i,m not sure what to do with them Bj

i like the airfoil fluid shape ...and they certainly wont rust ....maybe good for abstract garden furniture in some way....

they remind me of utube vids of airplane bone yards  ....things that once held a higher purpose but have been grounded and wait.....

as its a commercial company i might try to get some pics in the spare parts dept ...a new generator was delivered lately for one mill .......

a bit of diplomacy might be called on for that one ...:)  ...your wi-fi is down ? ...use ours ...by the way can i get a pic of that thing ? ...ish

thats kind of why i,d like to keep them Woof ......something big that moves (occasionally )....

would take a lot of welding work though ...scrapyard could supply some though ...bearings and the like ......

its good to see you back ..... :)

strictly a realist here Oz .....one mill is enough for me now methinks ..me and it are getting older

Ed lenz,s Coffey tin vawt does come to mind a bit though ....but the circumference and size of these airfoils are all wrong for anything remotely like  that ....

plus my better half see,s no possible reason for bringing them home ...she has a point
