Title: F'ing an E core
Post by: frackers on August 23, 2016, 07:15:10 am
Gggrrrrrr

Just got a nice new 65mm E core arrived today and within 10 minutes I'd made half of it into an F core. Primary wire is just a fraction too thick ;(

Do they superglue OK?

I've a 70mm one on its way just in case - the extra 2mm each side should give me the space I need.

All glued up OK and nice and quiet (compared to the hacked up multiple 'C' core setup I tried.

Idle current is 1.6A which is a little higher than I'd hoped but now I have the steel frame made up I can get everything together into a box with fans & monitor electronics.

It is a little high, but with a home formed transformer, to be expected, as I assume the insulation between foils is not perfect now.
Perhaps when the bigger ferrite comes, wind it as well and series it, and that may pull it down some more.

Don't forget the pics as we go... for you for posterity, and for me coz I'm a sticky beak ::)
