Title: Gun ownership in Washington, DC...
Post by: tomw on February 09, 2012, 07:28:18 am
Because having one could be the difference between surviving and not.

In DC, you can buy an illegal handgun in 5 minutes on the street or spend months and hundreds of dollars just to get the permit for a legal purchase.

Wonder which method most DC folks are using?

How Emily got her gun:

Seems like a lot to go through to exercise your Second Amendment rights?

Just found it interesting.

I had to take a $60 3 hour course and pay $50 for a CCW permit which includes the side benefit of a being a "permit" to purchase handguns. There are other ways to legally buy a handgun but I wanted the CCW anyway. Open carry is legal here, except in some cities.

Somehow, adding conditions, fees and licensing just seems a bit much to exercise a "right".

Just my morning rambling thoughts.

Sounds like similar hoops as up here with our "long gun registry".  Which is hopefully going to get
buried as promised.  Handguns are much worse.
Trying hard not to post more than 3 rants this year, so, if this works, it will be my rant
substitute.
