Home built panels

(1/2) > >>

bj:
Oz had asked how I was doing on the home builts, soooo-
Progress:  cells all tabbed,  lost about 3% due to cracking, but that is OK, as it forced me
me to find a way to cut them for other projects.  Bonus.
All cells tested, and grouped so panels will have equal cells.
Roof to mount them on has finally been completely rebuilt.  Needed to be done anyway.
Built two smaller panels for 12V charging on R.V.'s, one for me, one for a friend.  This
pointed out the need for a better vacuum pump,  as there are a few small bubbles.
They function in spite of this.
So now I have a 20 ft by 70 ft roof to mount them on, I know the build is do-able,
and just require life to co-operate so I can get to it.

been a while now.... and I did wonder...

You will be pleased to know that they work as well as we had hoped, and no sign of degradation. They pump water all over the island now
Remember to be thoughtful as to how you get the power out of them.

Looking back, maybe embedding wire cable into them would have been even easier rather than terminal box arrangement. No diodes in mine...didn't intend to shade them.

KathyJordan:
My family is thinking about installing solar panels. We all know about solar energy and found a lot of information, and recently we learnt that hillary clinton promotes solar energy. We realized that this is a chance to reduce non-renewable energy sources dependence and save some money. Solar panels aren't as popular as one may think (because of its price) and, unfortunately there are not so many companies that offer solar cells mounting and converting sunlight into electricity. This is a way to care about the environment and very good investment. First, you buy solar panels, but later they work on you and bring a lot of benefits.

We've tried pounding this into our friends skulls until they look the other way
when they see us coming......You can save a lot of money by conserving first of all
then what you save you can invest in alternative energy .
Don't get me wrong but solar power is my second choice .....wind power is my first.
It's much more fun watching a windmill than a solar panel .....a windmill can work night and day.

Have Fun !
