The SMAs do have a MAX watts setting that will scale them back. So you can run them at say 3000 watts and when you don't need 3000 anymore, using modbus, you send them a command and drop it to 2500 or whatever.
I would think the Xantrex might too?

Great idea! i didnt know any had that param. The emerson has a network port rj45 (2012 model) so maybe has that feature too? Thanks!
