Lawn LED lights
« on: June 10, 2013, 10:55:27 am »
Since I've been having trouble finding 4LEDs+1 lately the next best thing
is LED flashlights they stay lit much longer when the 3 AAA alkaline
are replaced with 3 c size Ni Cad batteries ......to start with
2367-0

I charge 3 3cell units plus 1 in the "E-Cane" stick the + end in just like a regular
flashlight.......
2369-1
after I have soldered a wire to that metal ribbon on the flashlight
you'll notice that the top end of has had a thin strip of cardboard and plastic
trimmed off to expose more of the metal end, and about 2 inches or so of the
insulated wire has been stripped off and looped over the end of the battery.

A 1/2 inch thin wall plastic pipe is capped over the battery end wedged over
the wire making good contact with the bare metal edges.

Now it that plastic pipe cap is long enough It can be driven into the ground
before you put the battery into it .
2371-2

the lens is made from 2 plastic glasses taped together with a hole whacked
in one end and stuck over the end of the flashlight.

Will have to make a sturdy wire cage for the lens later.

That's enough for the day tho .
The battery s last at this bright for 12 hrs. and more !
Not bad for $1 and a  little material the batteries even if bought are even a lot
cheaper than 3 AAA s.
(batteries for any member) $1 + S&H.
While supplies last .
Norm.

Very nice Norm!

Bet you've already looked around for some colored cups.

The batteries are separate they are removed and 3-3cell units
and one separate cell are dropped into one of my plastic 3/4 thin wall
tubes and charged with one of my VW panels .
I'm gradually making a whole bunch of these:
2383-0
very useful in units like this I put 4 units in a tube
with magnets on the ends ....stick alligator clamps
on lead wires to a 14.4 cordless drill to test them
2385-1
if they hold up they are recharged
and stored in little boxes of 4 or 5 for 18 volt battery
pack instant refillsjust like you'd replace rechargable
batteries in a flashlight.
2387-2
so I don't worry about monkeying around with dinky little
solar cells on the top of dinky little solar lights like the
neighbor has.....(about 50 of them that all together wouldn't
light up a rock in your path) fooey ! If the sun shines everyday
LOL
