Aug 9 2012. Unplanned network repairs
« on: August 09, 2012, 04:33:25 pm »
By the time many of you read this it will be a past tense issue..

However.

I have to take Anotherpower offline for a short time to do some unplanned repairs to the network.
Some may have noticed brief periods that the site would not respond over the last few days, this is being caused by a failing piece of network gear.  This is a temporary fix, and I will have to do this again at a later date with the permanent parts.

Trying to make power from alternative energy any which way I can.
Just to abuse what I make. (and run this site)

Update Aug 10 2012 CDT

The repair/patch went well.
Though it took a little longer than I hoped, it was withing what I planned and all temp fixes and parts are doing their jobs.

Since I will need to eventually move out these temporary measures I plan to do a few changes to the way each device in my network is powered as well.
I am slowly working to take most of our house off the grid, its a long term goal but I am still working on the "saving a watt" part, as this is something I can more easily afford

This involves moving some of the services I historically ran from here to my server in town it's mostly sitting around barely loaded anyway.
All of anotherpower will still be here and powered by renewables however.
This lessens the need for most  if not all of the always on, power hungry gear that I have that is NOT powered by renewables.
This includes a move to put in devices that can all be directly powering them from the low voltage (24 volt) partof the RE system though various more efficient means. I will document how that all goes

Wait, what else might we have in common Wolv? I haven't looked in a while (just assumed it hasn't changed), but I'm pretty sure that's the amount on my paycheck too.   :-\

paycheck???  Hell, we haven't used such antiquated systems in years. It's all direct bank transfers now, done over the interwebz.
I get my $0.00 transferred automatically, straight into my account. (Still have to wait a day for it to clear, only THEN can I try to spend all my newfound wealth).  At this rate, I'll never match Ghurd in the dozenaire club.  :(
