What this is running on (don't laugh)
« on: June 22, 2012, 03:41:11 pm »
Today I had a local acquaintance question if this site is really run on renewable energy, well actually he outright said he doesn't believe it.

So I invited him over, and hes watching me post this  ;D.

I know it might not mean much since I do not walk you through it all piece by piece, I'll do that when I get my wiring cleaned up a bit better.

But here it is, it's the little black box on the wooden shelf
(Again please don't laugh at the tiny little thing.. it has more spunk than ya might think.)

Trying to make power from alternative energy any which way I can.
Just to abuse what I make. (and run this site)

I'm not laughing either, but watching closely!

I have a couple routers sitting around here doing nothing, one had DD-WRT loaded up from another project that has since been retired. I've been playing with it trying to get an rsync server running on it for backups to a NAS. Seriously! I don't need big horsepower for that job, but my current VM is running on a DL360, way overkill for the job and a power hog. If I can get the little router to take over that job (at 4 watts!) I can retire the old HP.

Really think its great but

something wrong with this phrase

"2Tb dual drives mirror raid0"  maybe Raid 1? (Raid 0 is a pure stripe with no redundancy)

unless things have changed recently :)

Wow on the wattage. That's almost as good as my laptop. Might have to look into something like that.
