12 foot Turbine to sell No Blade Set.
« on: May 07, 2012, 11:21:47 am »

This is it before it was raised.

I simply cannot keep up with repairs or even the maintenance on this size machine. I cannot handle the head and raising it is simply too much for me alone and I work alone most of the time.

So, with smashed blades and bent mast I just cannot justify the effort and expense to resurrect it. I do not think it has any damage to the head or tail just lost the blades.

While I certainly appreciated its contribution to our power needs I simply cannot justify the hassle (for me) of dealing with a larger machine. I want to add more solar since it just needs to be properly installed once and "just works".

I would like to get around $2000 for the head, hub plates and tail. I think it would go on a long pallet for motor freight or could be picked up F.O.B. NE Iowa. I guess the head alone weighs around 100#. Took 2 young healthy guys to put it on the tower stub and while I can lift it I cannot "handle" it.

Not sure what it was rated at but it has pushed well over 2.5 KW into my 24 volt batteries according to the Doc Wattson on it.

It was a workshop built turbine I got from Dan Bartmann and it had been in use a couple years here before it came down.

Here are photos of the parts when delivered:

Here it is assembled after it was built with the group that built it:

I do not know the specs like magnet size but could go measure them if anyone is actually interested.

Here it is after it crashed it seems the blades took the brunt of the damage the rotors turn true and free and no bent parts I could see:

Anyway, if you want more info I will do my best to get it.

Tom

Sorry to hear it's gotta go Tom.

Any plan to replace that units place high on the tower with something smaller?

Yeah, will straighten the tower as best I can and the one with the fresh 8 foot fiberglass blades will go up there. It is @ 30 feet now so then it will be @43 feet at the hub.

Then I do have another 10 ft class head on hand and the old (slightly damaged & repaired) wooden prop from the one with the fresh glass blades on it I can put on the 30 foot 4 leg tower.

Not giving up on wind just the ones I cannot manipulate alone.

Got some details.

Moved this down to the shop area. Here are some specs:

Magnet Rotor:3/8" thick X 15" Diameter with 16) 2" X 1/2" NEO Discs. Unknown "grade" Plated. Has a keeper band around perimeter of magnets.

Paint is scuffed but was only Rustoleum.

Magnet Rotors both turn true and easy.

Nothing is bent that I can see.

Stator is intact and undamaged as the arms that it bolt to took the hit into soft, damp ground.

As an aside, that Gorilla Tape has been in the weather over 2 years with no apparent deterioration.

More pics of the alternator, tail and blade hub plates:
