Wind Speed - Averages, Estimation and History
« on: January 17, 2012, 12:14:23 pm »
If you are really interested in getting accurite readings for your area and at the correct height above ground, you should consider putting up an Anemometer (wind speed indicator) and putting up where you plan on raising a wind turbine. But there are some resources that will give you actual
Wind Speeds and Histories for your Area.

Here is a 3 day history for my area. Put your zip code in at the top of the page and get a 3 day history for your area. Recorded at hourly intervals.

I live on the coast and have been using http://www.windfinder.com/ for about 7 years now and find it good for past, present, and 7 day forecast.  I mainly use it for sailing and windsurfing but also for planning my RE (sun and wind) usage during the week.

windfinder is pretty neat...i like free stuff ... :)....it takes its readings for me from the nearest airport ...and gives really good data ...

best of all its free information and logging for your general area....i guess not as good as you own site monitering but a great base point to start from
