Shopping for parts
« on: January 01, 2017, 03:10:18 pm »
Just got a set of Clockman PCBs and started shopping - selection of the big caps on the power board is making my brain hurt!!

The recommended seem to be 10000uF 100v coded 'LXM' but nearly all I'm seeing are coded 'KMH'. Can anyone shed some light on these incantations and what their consequences are?

Cheers

Simply refer to the series types......
http://www.chemi-con.com/upload/files/8/7/66341692252d6c33b05fe8.pdf for KMH series
and
http://www.chemi-con.com/upload/files/1/6/91385796152d6c5f0e03dd.pdf for LXM series

and
http://www.chemi-con.com/data-sheets for all the series ( many many series )

Ahh - ripple!! Thanks Oztules, I wouldn't have known to look for a site called 'chemi-con'.

I've checked out Aliexpress, Mouser, RS-Online, DigiKey and Element14 and none seem to list the LMX series. Comparing specs (7000 hrs @ 105C) I found one at $55 each. No going to happen at that price!!

Any recommendations?

Still, as my Grandad always said - Buy cheap buy twice...

Hi Frackers,

Sourcing components is not easy, especially as the sellers themselves do not seem to really know what they are selling.

I use these,  http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/331717162896  yea........ there Advert pic shows KMH but when they get here they are LXM, but I try to spec hunt on physical size as well.

They seem to work okay!

I did wonder about offering a bag of components with the PCB's, but as you are finding out, sourcing consistent quality components is a bit of a nightmare. Maybe one day?

However, the OzInverter PCB's and 'Oztules' designs, does give us a robust boards, so we are not necessarily flying by the seat of our pants on relying on 'Just up to spec' components.
